She was the recipient of the Honours Award in Design at the University of Bridgeport. Subsequently, she was a senior lecturer in the Visual Art Masters Programme at the Cultural Centre, University of Malaya. She is the author of Living Art: The Inspired Lives of 14 Malaysian Artists and their Art Practice (2020). Her current artworks are a departure from her research and writing—with a focus on the meditative and spiritual aspects of art practice. They are based on experiences, recollections of people, spaces and places, as well as the joys and struggles of everyday living. For Emy, abstract art is a doorway that leads to the heightening of our sensitivity to emotion and our awareness to the inner landscapes of the mind. It is a way of connecting us to a higher power which is the source of all creativity.
